Christian Cafe News
The
Christian Cafe Ministry held its third organizational
meeting at Friendly's Restaurant on Sunday November
24th. We are praising God that yet another church
expressed interest in this project. However, the
turnout at the monthly meeting is lagging compared
to the number of people expressing interest.
We will be contacting the churches that have expressed
interest (as well as other churches we have "heard"
that are interested) over the next 45 days. We want
our January meeting to be the largest meeting yet
(we are skipping a December meeting due to Christmas,
but will be meeting again January 26th, 2003). We
need all those interested in this project to attend
the monthly meetings so that we can start to organize
and make some decisions. If God wills this project
to come to fruition, He will do so through His people!
So far the following local churches have expressed
interest in becoming involved (either directly or
via members who are interested):
1) Jamestown Bethel Baptist Church
2) Fluvanna Community Church
3) Christ First United Methodist
4) Zion Covenant Church
5) First Church of God
Other churches that we have "heard through
the grapevine" that have interested members
are: Hillcrest Baptist Church, Lakewood Baptist
Church, Levant Weslyan Church, Kennedy Baptist Church,
and First Covenant Church. Plus we're sure that
there are probably other local churches as well.
PLEASE have some of your church's members commit
to our monthly meetings so that we can start to
bring certain portions of this project to completion
as soon as February or March. There is widespread
interest in this project amongst local congregations,
which we feel is God-given. A Non-profit Evangelic
Outreach/Fellowship ministry in the Jamestown-area
would fill a much needed "gap" in our
area. Being a ministry and not-for-profit is the
key to the success of this project. But as such
we need Christians to become actively involved.
"Many hands make light work" as the saying
goes...
We're also toying with the idea of meeting with
some of the churches who are interested (or have
interested members) during the first three weeks
of January. There are 3 to 6 of us who are willing
to go to various local evangelic (salvation-based,
"born again") churches to explain in person
what we are desiring to accomplish (i.e., to garner
support for our monthly organizational meetings).
Let us know
if you're interested in having us come to your church
The
Christian Cafe Ministry held its second organizational
meeting at Friendly's Restaurant on Sunday October
27th. In attendance was one new member, who brought
to the group's attention a past attempt at doing
this very thing. He was very generous in his suggestions
and offered to help in various ways (he is a member
of the Christ First United Methodist Church in Jamestown).
Much of the same information from the first meeting
was reiterated, with the group expressing the desire
to continue to meet monthly at Friendly's until
the total number of people willing to help get this
project off the ground reaches 20 individuals (currently
we are at 12, but only a handful attended the last
meeting - where was everyone?).
This brings the total number of churches with members
expressing interest to four (members from: Bethel
Baptist Church, Fluvanna Community Church, Zion
Covenant Church, Christ First United Methodist Church).
We have met with various pastors and Christian Organization
Leaders, yet we are not consistently hearing back
from them (thus the list above shows only 4 churches).
We ask, and pray, that all those interested
PLEASE attend the next meeting on Sunday November
24th at 8pm at Friendly's Restaurant. We need to
garner a consistent group before we can initiate
the beginning steps necessary.
Please contact us if you are interested in becoming
involved, let us know how to contact you. Please
view this website for updates (like this one), and
let us know your intent to be at the next meeting!

Christian Cafe when calling).
The Christian Cafe Ministry held its first organizational
meeting at Friendly's Restaurant on Sunday September
29th. In attendance were eight people, with four
others unable to attend. The group is now up to
12 people seeking to be involved. We'd love to raise
that number to 30 people by our next meeting (see
details below).
Following the advice given at the first meeting,
and the same advice from Family Life Network (FLN.org),
Colin Chase met with the Pastor's Prayer Team at
Hillcrest Baptist Church on Tuesday October 1st.
In attendance were 9 local Pastor's and ministry
leaders. These local evangelic church representatives
were extremely interested in the Christian Cafe
concept (click here to view
foundational concepts). They committed to informing
their various churches regarding our next meeting.
As well, other ideas were brought forth and will
be pursued (to be discussed at the next meeting).
Local Christian Businesses are being sought for
aid and input, and a list is being created of such
businesses to contact. We'd like representatives
from these businesses to be at the next meeting
as well - therefore we need help in contacting them
all. Please let us know if you know of any individuals
or businesses we should contact (or pass this link
to them so they can see for themselves).
FLN's Salsa Singles website has linked to our site
as a means of promotion. We greatly appreciate the
help of Jim Carl for this. (Salsa
Website - click here) Roger Settje (the FLN
Public Relations guru) also made various wonderful
suggestions, for which we are greatly thankful.
A tentative location has been mentioned by Jeremy
Knapp, with Colin viewing the locale as well. We
will be looking into this possibility more as we
progress.
Please join us for our next organizational meeting
at Friendly’s Restaurant on Sunday October 27th
at 8pm. Please let us know of your intent to attend,
as Friendly's needs to know how many to plan for
(for staffing needs). Email to:
